The Rules Committee

About Rules

The Rules Committee serves to review and update the Council’s Constitution and Bylaws. These documents have proven pivotal to the Council’s operation procedures by ensuring crucial ingredients for effective legislating, including time efficient debate and proper quorum and voting thresholds for Council decisions. The Rules Committee further oversees the Council’s statement approval process, reviewing organizations pursuing Council endorsement prior to their consideration at a General meeting. Besides their internal regulatory work, Rules Committee Members play an important role in the student club/organization approval process. All new clubs seeking provisional recognition from the College, or more established clubs seeking full recognition, must first undergo review by the Rules committee. In this way, the Rules Committee serves as another point of contact between the Council and Harvard’s extracurricular community.
